G’DAY MATE!

January 29th, 2010 by Rebecca Wilde

Yes, that is what the flight attendant ended her spiel with when we landed.  I currently still have cankles from my, around 22 hour, flight.  So swollen even with the compression sock my dear friend Ashley gave me.  My poor mother couldn’t get her shoes back on her feet were so swollen.  However all that aside we are HERE!!!  So cool……Sydney, Australia.  Customs took quite a bit but those in line with us said this isn’t always the case.  I had a bit of an issue because the airline put Ms. in as part of my name and official wanted to know why my name was cams.  As in Rebec Cams.  Ugh.  However, the customs people could not have been nicer!  We made it through eventually and walked out into 85 degree sunshine.  So gorgeous!

We found our hotel and a friend of mine who lives here who showed us a bit around town.  I now know where Russell Crow lives and the location of a scene filmed for a Heath Ledger movie, although I’m not sure which one.  We looked out over the harbor and Keiron, my friend, showed me the bridge on which I am hoping to do a bridge climb….go to bridgeclimb.com to see.  Crossing my fingers!  Gotta book it today.  I also want to check out the observation deck at the Sydney Tower.  Both of these adventures for which I will be on my own for my mother hates heights.  She has issue with just driving over a bridge let alone climbing one.

I met Keiron’s daughters yesterday and they are a dream! So cute and their mother has a wicked sense of humor.  I think I like her a lot.  The younger of the two came to dinner with us near the hotel.  We then walked around their very enormous outskirts of Chinatown.  Chock full of those ridiculous little machines with the claws where it is nearly impossible to capture some frivolous doll. But, of course, with one coin, Hannah, was hooked and the game was on.  She ultimately did not win but had a good time playing.  In my opinion, the missed victory is instead truly a gift.  What DO children and some adults find desirable in these little misfit toys?

I don’t have any pictures as of yet but will be posting them here and on Facebook.  So much to do!!  We’ve been invited to a genuine Barbi today!  And we’re off…….but it IS only 4am here so maybe I should catch a few more winks.

I LOVE THIS! READ TIL THE END

January 20th, 2010 by Rebecca Wilde
One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;
it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he

quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing..
He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it

off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

*****

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

Free your heart from hatred - Forgive..

Free your mind from worries - Most never happen..

Live simply and appreciate what you have.

Give more.

Expect less

NOW …….

Enough of that crap. The donkey later came back,
and bit the farmer who had  tried to bury him.
The gash from the bite got infected and

the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

MORAL FROM TODAY’S LESSON:

When you do something wrong, and try to cover
your ass, it always comes back to bite you.

ROMANTIC VALENTINES DAY!

January 19th, 2010 by Rebecca Wilde

If your light wallet is making you dread the price of a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, White Castle might be your shining beacon of hope this holiday.

Yes, we said White Castle. The national burger chain is offering tableside service, flowers and candle light at 14 locations on Feb. 14. It’s so exclusive you even have to make a reservation to get in.

Apparently, this is a White Castle tradition that dates back to 1991, and cheap — er, thoughtful — dates have been taking advantage to indulge their inner Harold and Kumar ever since.

While we can think of a million ways that a romantic dinner at a place that serves “sliders” just seems wrong, we have to admit that White Castle’s call to satisfy your “champagne tastes on a burger budget” is persuasive in this economy. “At White Castle, you can indulge your special someone’s craving for a romantic dinner without breaking your budget,” Vice President Jamie Richardson explains in a company press release. A Sack 3 Meal, which amounts to dinner for two with 10 sliders, two 21 oz. soft drinks and two regular French fries is just $11.99.

The White Castle special comes with a professional photographer snapping shots of you with your sweetie, so you can show the grandkids one day just how committed you are to satisfying that White Castle craving.
