FROM MY FRIEND LAURA

Friday, August 29th, 2008

To cut down on the number of impaired drivers on the roads this coming Labor Day weekend, Ace Taxi and the Cuyahoga County DUI Task Force are offering free cab rides home.

Call 1-800-TAXICAB from anywhere in the county Friday, Saturday and Sunday and tell the dispatcher you need a safe ride home.

The DUI task force’s 45 law enforcement agencies, the State Highway Patrol, Cleveland and many suburban police departments have announced they will be out in force and setting up checkpoints to catch impaired drivers this weekend.

“Last year’s Labor Day holiday yielded the highest number of traffic fatalities in Ohio of any of the major holiday travel periods for the year,” patrol Col. Richard Collins said in a news release. “Not only did 24 people perish in Ohio traffic crashes, but 10 of those deaths were alcohol-related.”

PLEASE BE SAFE THIS WEEKEND!:)

I was part of this wonderful beer tasting at the Great Lakes Brewing Company the other night. While we were there owner Pat Conway took us outside to see the spectacle.  These ENORMOUS tanks being unloaded after being shipped from the other side of the country and placed withing the confines of the brewery.  They took the roof off to do so!!

This is the tank being lowered in…….

As for the beer tasting, I think they were trying to stuff us, literally!  The beer was good, yes, especially the Oktoberfest.  But the food was amazing.  Always a fan of the pretzle chicken, it was an app.  How about butternut squash ravioli..omg, yum!  Brewmasters pie, too.  The best was the brie with bourbon and brown sugar glazed pecans……oops, i’m drooling again.  I love the GLBC!  Do you know how “green” they are?  Ask them about their connection with Hale Farm the next time you are in the restaurant.  Go tonight!

MISSING DOGGIE-PLEASE HELP!

I was told Q104 helps people find their lost dogs.  My dog got loose this morning at 8:45 while the kids were getting on the bus.  She is a golden retrieve/lab retriever mix, all black with golden legs and gold under her chin.  Her name is Dixie and she was lost on Bryden Road going towards Richmond Road in Beachwood. She has a tag with her name and our phone number on it.  She is approximately 60 lbs and is very friendly, does not bite.  She has had all her shots.  Her blue retractable leash was on her when she got loose.  I can email pictures if that helps. Please make this information available to your listeners and if you need anything further, please do not hesitate to call me.

Thank you,
Kim

wine-glass-pour.jpgHey, I’m hosting a wine tasting called A Toast to the Trail on Thursday night.  It’s in the atrium at Blue Pointe which means yummy food and great wine to discover.  All that and it’s to benefit the Towpath Trail.  The Ohio Canal Corridor folks are soooo close to getting the final 5 miles of the trail up to Cleveland.  Imagine the places we could go, riding safely, and hopefully avoiding the tragedy that befell adored professor Miles Coburn last weekend.
