THESE THINGS CAN KILL

I  got this heartbreaking email today:

Sunday I had the very horrendous experience of watching my 6 month old Morgan (Collie/Pyr) die of strangulation from a no-slip collar.  The other pup got her mouth caught in Morgan’s collar and twisted so many times I could not get a knife underneath in time to cut it off.  Morgan died in my arms.  These collars have not buckles in order to get them off if something like this happens - they are potential death traps.  If not in play these collars could get caught on a kitchen cabinet knob and strangle your dog.  PLEASE do not use these collars and let any dog owner you know about these collars.  I will be talking to PetSmart this week and hopefully get them to stop selling them.

Thank you
Laurie

Update….I knew I wasn’t alone.  Thanks to Katrina for sending this:) Click HERE

To all the amazing people, who are of like mind or not, for all the supportive emails I have received since Friday.  Your words and you taking the time to write to me makes me feel so incredible and very lucky to live in a town with such warm and wonderful people.  I will never apologize for the way I feel about my babies:)  Thank you to Britt, too, for sending this gem:

A PET’S TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
~Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them.
Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God’s critters.
~Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs

7 FOODS EVERY WOMAN SHOULD EAT

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Here’s good food news: The more you munch on healthy eats, the less you need to worry about Friday night’s fat burger and fries. Who says? Harvard. They found that women routinely nibble nutritious foods slash their risk of dying from the usual culprits, like heart disease and cancer.

Berries
Berries have more protective antioxidants than almost any other food. “These compounds not only lower your disease risks, they help prevent memory loss.”

How Much: Aim for a cup of berries-any berries, fresh or frozen-at least three times a week.

Salmon
Salmon is a prime source of omega-3s. It also serves up 170 percent of your daily vitamin B12 and more than 80 percent of your vitamin D needs.

How Much: Aim for two servings a week (and if you substitute tuna for one serving, that’s OK).

Leafy Greens
It’s almost impossible to meet your nutritional needs without eating dark leafy greens. They’re huge sources of fiber, vitamins C and K, plus B vitamins that guards the heart and memory.

How Much: Two servings a day-and the darker, the better.

Whole Grains
They have up to 96 percent more fiber..

How Much: Ideally, all of the six daily grain servings you need should be whole, unrefined grains, but aim for at least three.

Nuts
They’re excellent sources of protein, B and E vitamins-major fighters in the war against heart disease and cancer. Yes, nuts are high in fat calories, but their fat is the heart-healthy kind. Replace junky snacks with them and you won’t gain an ounce.

How Much: Up to five small fistfuls a week.

Golden Veggies
Just one serving of fiber-filled, deep-yellow-orange vegetables supplies five times the beta carotene you need daily to lower your cancer risk, defend against colds and other infections, and protect your skin from sun damage. The potassium in these veggies also keeps your heartbeat in sync and your blood pressure down.

How Much: One sweet potato, 12 canned apricot halves, or a cup of butternut squash or carrots daily.

Yogurt
Low- or no-fat plain yogurt is a terrific source of B vitamins, protein, and calcium.

How Much: Four or more cups a week, if this is your main dairy source.
